Box Score RUTHERFORD, N.J. – The Felician University women's volleyball team began and finished its Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference match on Tuesday night in dominant fashion, earning a 3-2 (25-14, 19-25, 25-20, 23-25, 15-3) victory over visiting Post University at Job Gymnasium. Felician gained a split of its regular-season series with the Eagles.
The Golden Falcons (8-14, 6-4 CACC) moved past Post and into second place in the CACC North Division. Felician, which has seven conference matches remaining, trails first-place Bloomfield by a half-game. The Golden Falcons also improved to 2-2 this season in matches decided in five sets.
Junior outside hitter Hannah Chiswick (Pittstown, N.J./Delaware Valley) registered 15 kills, 10 digs, and three services aces for Felician. Golden Falcon junior middle blocker Jelena Vucic (Smederevo, Serbia/Gimnazija Smederevo) hit .304 with nine kills. Post freshman outside Madelynn Boop (Reno, Nev./Robert McQueen) led all players with 26 kills and added 16 digs.
Felician hit .320 in a quick Set 1 victory. Ahead 8-6, the hosts won eight consecutive rallies to take control. But the Eagles rebounded to capture Set 2. After a 4-0 run put the Golden Falcons ahead 15-11 during the third set, they captured enough side-outs to prevent Post from mounting a comeback. Set 4 found the teams tied five times down the stretch, the final occasion at 23-23, before the Eagles extended the match by winning the final two points.
Felician began the deciding set with junior Miquela Martinez (Santa Fe, N.M./St. Michael's) on serve, and a Martinez ace jumpstarted a 7-0 opening run for the hosts. The Golden Falcons pushed the lead to 10-2 before freshman Lorina Stoycheva (Sofia, Bulgaria/73 High School) entered the match to serve. She came up an ace among a 4-0 run which pushed Felician to the brink of victory. Following a Post side-out, senior Maddie Sloan (Caldwell, N.J./James Caldwell) ended the match with a kill one hour, 53 minutes. after it started.
Sloan put down three kills during the deciding set and hit .421 with eight kills and six digs on the night. Vucic hit .304 with nine kills. Felician's setter tandem of Martinez (17 kills, 18 digs) and Alexis Ridgon (Lake Worth, Fla./Spanish River) (27, 6) combined for 44 assists and 24 digs.
Felician senior libero Alondra Diaz Sanchez (Toa Alta, Puerto Rico/Colegio de La Salle) lifted 29 digs, as did her counterpart on the Eagles, graduate student Nelly Diaz (Land'O'Lakes, Fla./Sunlake).
The Golden Falcons travel to northwest Philadelphia on Saturday for a CACC match against Chestnut Hill College. The start time is 10 a.m.
