Women's Volleyball Denied By Chestnut Hill In Deciding Set

Box Score

PHILADELPHIA – Felician University forced a deciding set but went down to a 3-2 (25-20, 23-25, 19-25, 25-18, 15-11) defeat to host Chestnut Hill College in Saturday morning's Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference women's volleyball match between the teams at Sorgenti Arena.

Felician (8-15, 6-5) lost despite attacking at a season-best .216 rate. Junior outside hitter Hannah Chiswick (Pittstown, N.J.) produced team highs of 16 kills, 17 digs and five aces for the Golden Falcons, and junior middle blocker Catherine Lentsch (Elkhorn, Neb.) hit .600 with a career-high 14 kills.

After dropping Set 1, Felician emerged victorious from a tightly contested second set which was tied on nine occasions. The visitors then jumped out to a 7-1 Set 3 lead. Chestnut Hill, however, used a 5-0 run to take the lead for good, 12-10, and extended to a 21-13 edge to move back on top in the match.

The Golden Falcons scored six consecutive points to take control of Set 4, 16-10, and easily held on to extend the match. The teams remained within a point of each other during the deciding set until the Griffins claimed four consecutive rallies to move ahead, 8-5. For the ensuing 12 rallies, neither team could score on serve. The consecutive side-outs put CHC on the brink of victory at 14-11. A kill by Griffin freshman Erika Dubosky (Summit Hill, Pa.) handed her team the triumph one hour, 53 minutes, after the first service.

Felician fell to 2-3 this season in matches decided in five sets.

CHC junior Henielys Ramos (Trujillo Alto, Puerto Rico) led all players with 18 kills. Dubosky finished with 15 kills and 17 digs while hitting .429. The Griffins came up with 16 aces, led by five from sophomore setter Mia Caporelle (Downingtown, Pa.), who also amassed 55 assists and 10 digs.

Felician junior setter Miquela Martinez (Santa Fe, N.M.) collected 42 assists and 13 digs. She set up senior Maddie Sloan (Caldwell, N.J.) and freshman Olivia Anderson (Egg Harbor Township, N.J.) for eight kills apiece.

Chiswick, who has 12 aces in her last three matches, tied the Felician single-season record of 43 aces set by Megan Delamater in 2008. The Golden Falcons have six regular-season matches remaining.

Felician makes the short trip to Essex County, N.J., to face Bloomfield College on Wednesday at 7 p.m. The Golden Falcons and Bears will enter the night as the top two teams in the CACC North Division.
