CORAM, N.Y. – Competing for the fourth consecutive weekend to open the 2021-22 season, the Felician University women's bowling team went 4-9 in its dual matches at the inaugural DezyStrong Classic, hosted by Adelphi University Friday through Sunday at Coram Country Lanes.
The tournament field contained 16 teams. The format called for five 5-game Baker matches on Friday followed by five traditional team matches on Saturday. The teams were then seeded based on total pinfall into a championship bracket for three best-of-7 Baker playoff matches on Sunday.
Ten of the teams participating in the event were ranked in the Top 25 of the preseason national NCAA coaches' poll. Felician faced seven of them over the first two days of the event. The Golden Falcons began their weekend with a victory over host and No. 25 Adelphi, and followed by defeating Bloomfield College during Friday's Baker play.
Felician, however, picked up only one other dual victory through Saturday, stopping Saint Francis College-Brooklyn during the third traditional match. The Golden Falcons were seeded 15th to begin Sunday's playoffs. After a 4-0 sweep of Bloomfield, Felician lost to Saint Francis-Brooklyn and Bloomfield to finish in 16th place.
Three Golden Falcons started all five traditional matches. Senior Natalie Swindell (Beachwood, N.J./Toms River South) shot 917 (average of 183.4), including a 221 during the win over Saint Francis, and finished 33rd out of 124 players, based on total pinfall of those who competed in at least one match. Senior Jenn Ingulli (Oakhurst, N.J./Ocean Township) was 47th with 825 (165.0) and sophomore Ashley Ferrara (Beachwood, N.J./Toms River South) felled 805 pins (161.0) and placed 49th.
Tournament proceeds benefited the DezyStrong Foundation, a not-for-profit organization whose mission is to provide the opportunity for individuals fighting cancer to have access to support that affects a positive mental well-being.
Felician (16-22) hosts the Falcon Fall Classic on Nov. 13-14 at Lodi Lanes in Lodi, N.J.
