LODI, N.J. – The Felician University women's bowling team hosted the two-day, 11-team Falcon Fall Classic on Saturday and Sunday at Lodi Lanes. The Golden Falcons finished in fifth place after posting a 3-6 dual match record.
The tournament format called for five traditional team games on Saturday and five 5-game Baker matches on Sunday, with opponents determined by random draw. Total pinfall determined the team standings.
Felician senior right-hander Natalie Swindell (Beachwood, N.J./Toms River South) qualified for the All-Tournament Team, comprised of the top six players in traditional team game average who started at least four matches. Swindell started all five and felled 1001 pins for an average of 200.2, second-best among 74 individuals. Only tournament Most Valuable Player Amanda Chrzanowski of No. 8 nationally-ranked Fairleigh Dickinson University (1016, 203.2) was better.
The Golden Falcons participated in four tight matches during traditional play on Saturday. They opened the event with a four-pin victory over Saint Francis (Pa.) University. Felician was then defeated by No. 25 Adelphi University by 24 pins, Daemen College by seven, and D'Youville College by seven. The Golden Falcons were in fifth place after Day 1.
Felician was 2-3 during Sunday's Baker play, gaining dual victories over Bloomfield College during Match 3 and St. Thomas Aquinas College to conclude the event. The Golden Falcons finished only four pins behind fourth-place Daemen.
Felician senior righty Jenn Ingulli (Oakhurst, N.J./Ocean Township) bowled 925 (185.0 average) and finished fifth among all individuals based on total pinfall but seventh among All-Tournament contenders based on tournament average.
The two nationally ranked teams in the field topped the standings. Fairleigh Dickinson captured the championship with 9,284 pins (185.7 average) followed by Adelphi at 8,933 (178.7). Caldwell University (8,540, 170.8) finished in third place.
Prior to Sunday's competition, Ingulli and Swindell were honored by their teammates and Felician head coach Taylor Strothmann in a Senior Day ceremony.
Felician (19-28) was competing in its final tournament of the fall semester. The Golden Falcons are next in action Jan. 28-30, 2022, at the Red Flash Invitational, hosted by Saint Francis in Altoona, Pa.
