Box Score RUTHERFORD, N.J. – Junior outside hitter Hannah Chiswick (Pittstown, N.J./Delaware Valley) hit .351 with a match-high 16 kills to lead Felician University to a 3-0 (25-13, 25-17, 25-23) Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference women's volleyball victory over visiting Nyack College on Tuesday night at Job Gymnasium. Felician earned a sweep of its regular-season series over Nyack for the second consecutive full season.
With the win, the Golden Falcons (10-16, 8-6 CACC) inched closer to earning a home match during the quarterfinals of the 2021 CACC Championship tournament. Felician, in second place in the CACC North Division, is 2 ½ games ahead of third-place Post University. Felician has three conference matches remaining while the Eagles have four. The Golden Falcons also kept pace with Bloomfield College for first place in the division, remaining a half-game back.
On Tuesday, Felician hit .238 while holding the Warriors (2-18, 2-12) to an .080 attack percentage. Golden Falcon junior middle hitter Catherine Lentsch (Elkhorn, Neb./Elkhorn South) hit .421 with 10 kills and freshman right-side hitter Olivia Anderson (Little Egg Harbor, N.J./Pinelands Regional) hit .286 with eight kills.
Felician extended an 11-8 first-set lead to 20-9 en route to quickly taking a 1-0 edge in the match. The Golden Falcons broke open Set 2 early, capturing six straight rallies for a 10-3 edge. The Warriors came as close as 21-17 before Felician earned the final four points.
Nyack again played from behind during Set 3, but closed a 14-7 deficit to 23-21. A solo block by Jelena Vucic (Smederevo, Serbia/Gimnazija Smederevo) temporarily slowed the Warriors, but kills by Jada Hamilton (Houston, Texas/Cypress Springs) and Cassady Hymes (Las Vegas, Nev./Green Valley) pulled the visitors to within 24-23. Felician outlasted the Warriors during the next rally, with an Anderson kill ending a long point and the match.
Felician junior setter Miquela Martinez (Santa Fe, N.M./St. Michael's) totaled 20 assists, 14 digs and three aces. Senior libero Alondra Diaz Sanchez (Toa Alta, Puerto Rico/Colegio de La Salle) had 22 digs, four assists and two aces; her Nyack counterpart, graduate student British Dawson (Kailua, Hawaii/University Laboratory School), amassed 27 digs.
Felician hosts Thomas Jefferson University on Sunday at 1 p.m. in Rutherford.
