Box Score ORANGEBURG, N.Y. – Sophomore Brieanna Martins (Clifton, N.J.) became the first Felician University women's soccer goalkeeper to ever score a point during the Golden Falcons' 2-1 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference overtime loss to host Dominican (N.Y.) College on Wednesday afternoon at the Orangetown Soccer Complex.
Felician (1-15, 0-11 CACC) was playing in its final match of the 2021 season. The Golden Falcons fell to 0-5-0 this season in games decided in extra time, all by 2-1 scores.
Felician was the first team on the scoreboard, and its goal was initiated by Martins. Her punt sailed past the midline and over the Charger defense. Sophomore midfielder Katinka Ummels (Urmond, Netherlands) beat a Dominican defender to the ball and slipped it past the goalkeeper 16 minutes, 52 second into the action.
But Dominican drew even during the 33rd minute on freshman Alyssa Madura (Warwick, N.Y.) fourth goal of the season, and the sides entered halftime tied, 1-1. The Chargers kept Felician on the defense for much of the second period. But despite piling up advantages of 15-0 in shots and 7-0 in corner kicks during the half, the hosts were held off the scoreboard for the balance of regular time.
Dominican ended the game quickly in extra time, however. Senior Brianna Sparrow (Cherry Hill, N.J.) connected with Madura inside the 18-yard box, and the freshman was able to get in close and put the ball past a diving Martins at 92:47.
Martins faced 26 shots and made a season-high 10 saves. Dominican keeper Lauren Drummond (Kitchener, Ontario) earned the victory with three saves, all in the first half. The Chargers gained a share of the CACC regular-season championship and the top seed for next week's conference championship tournament with the win.
