Box Score RUTHERFORD, N.J. – The Felician University women's volleyball team saw a furious comeback fall short during its 3-1 (25-16, 25-20, 23-25, 29-27) Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference loss to visiting Concordia (N.Y.) College on Thursday afternoon at Job Gymnasium.
Felician junior outside hitter Maddle Sloan (Caldwell, N.J./James Caldwell) led all players on the day with 17 kills and 11 digs. Senior teammate Katie Asbery (Mililani, Hawaii/Mililani) added 12 kills.
Felician (1-2, 1-2 CACC) never led during either of the first two sets. The Clippers stretched an 11-10 Set 1 edge to 15-11. Ahead, 18-15, Concordia captured the next six rallies to pull away.
The visitors then seized the momentum by jumping out to a 6-0 Set 2 lead. The Golden Falcons closed to within 9-8, but Concordia rattled off seven consecutive points, including three service aces by Nelly Diaz (Land'O'Lakes, Fla./Hillsborough CC), to take control.
The sides were never separated by more than three points throughout set 3. Tied at 18-18, Felician scored the next three points, including kills by Asbery and Hannah Chiswick (Pittstown, N.J./Delaware Valley), and hung on as the teams traded side-outs the rest of the way.
The Golden Falcons clawed back from a 21-17 fourth-set deficit to extend play. Felician saved two match points, then has two set points of their own thwarted by Concordia, before a Felician attack error and net violation ended play.
Concordia (3-1, 3-1) placed four attackers in double figures, led by 16 kills, 11 digs an a .394 attack percentage from Lydimar Soto (Trujillo Alto, Puerto Rico/Academica Bautista). Setter Kiara Abreu (Middletown, N.Y./Middletown) had 46 assists and eight digs and guided the Clipper offense to a .237 attack percentage. Concordia also produced nine aces to just one for Felician.
Chiswick finished with nine kills and seven digs and Miquela Martinez (Santa Fe, N.M./St. Michael's) accumulated 37 assists and 15 digs for the Golden Falcons.
