Felician Fourth, Lauchaire Ninth, At CACC Golf Championship

HAWORTH, N.J. – Felician University placed fourth of seven teams at the 2020-21 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference Men's Golf Championship tournament on Monday. The event was hosted by Dominican (N.Y.) College at White Beeches Country Club.

Graduate student Christian Lauchaire (Annandale, N.J./North Hunterdon) shot a six-over-par total of 78 on the 6,584-yard layout to lead the Felician contingent. Lauchaire tied for ninth place out of 32 entrants He made three birdies, seven pars, seven bogeys, and one double-bogey.

The conference championship meet was moved to the spring semester and shortened to 18 holes due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.

Lauchaire was the only Golden Falcon to finish among the top half of the field. Felician's other departing senior, Jake Storako (Laurel Springs, N.J./Highland Regional), settled for 83 and tied for 18th. Storako averaged 77.33 for six rounds during the abbreviated 2020-21 campaign and holds onto an outside chance to qualify for NCAA Regionals as an individual.

Storako and Lauchaire will graduate as Felician's top two career leaders in scoring average. Storako claims a 77.19 figure for a school-record 77 rounds, while Lauchaire has averaged 78.25 over 40 rounds.

"We said goodbye to two great players today in Jake and Christian," said second-year Felician head coach Joe Ambrose. "I look forward to playing pro-ams with them this summer."

An 84 by freshman Nathan Sampson (Leeds, England/Crossley Heath School) and junior Gonzalo Maldonado Felices' (Almeria, Spain/Stella Maris) 85 rounded out the Golden Falcons' team score of 330. Sampson tied for 20th place and Maldonado Felices tied for 24th. Felician freshman Dylan Molloy (Spotswood, N.J./Spotswood) carded an 88 to tie for 27th place.

Felician finished 19 strokes behind third-place Goldey-Beacom College and 10 ahead of Chestnut Hill College in fifth. The host Chargers won the event by one stroke, 305-306, over Concordia (N.Y.) College, with Dominican's Alexander Lundvall taking medalist honors with 71.

"We just didn't have it today and played catch-up all day," Ambrose said. "Congratulations to Dominican – their one stroke victory shows how important every single shot is."
