Box Score 2 RUTHERFORD, N.J. – Freshman opposite hitter Bridget Thompson (Houston, Texas) recorded a pair of double-doubles as the Felician University women's volleyball team split a pair of contests at a non-conference tri-match hosted by Virginia State University on Saturday at the VSU Multipurpose Center. Felician defeated the host Trojans, 3-0, in its morning match before falling, 3-1, to Alderson Broaddus University later on Saturday.
Thompson totaled 10 kills and 11 digs versus Virginia State. She then flipped her line to turn in 11 kills and 10 digs against the Battlers.
The Golden Falcons (2-5) eked out a 29-27, 25-22, 25-19 triumph over VSU. Felician erased deficits of 12-3 in Set 1 and 16-6 in Set 2. Defense reigned supreme for Felician, which held its hosts to a negative attack percentage and owned a 7-5 blocking edge. Junior middle Jelena Vucic (Smederevo, Serbia) had a hand in four blocks.
Hannah Chiswick (Pittstown, N.J.) added five kills to a balanced Golden Falcon offense. Freshman outside hitter Helena Eubanks (Kansas City, Mo.) led the Trojans (1-3) with 13 kills and had three blocks.
After dropping the first two sets against Alderson Broaddus, Felician saved two match points in the third. With the set even at 26-26, the Golden Falcons extended the match using a Chiswick ace and a kill by Olivia Anderson (Little Egg Harbor, N.J.). The Battlers, however, hit .286 during Set 4 to claim a 25-18, 25-16, 26-28, 25-17 win.
AB (2-2) amassed advantages of 55-38 in kills, 87-77 in digs and 9-2 in blocks. Sophomore Schylar Shepard (Findlay, Ohio) led three Battler attackers in double figures in kills with 13 and lifted 11 digs. AB libero Lainey McGonigle (Westerville, Ohio) led all players with 31 digs; her Felician counterpart, senior Alondra Diaz Sanchez (Toa Alta, Puerto Rico), picked up a career-best 28.
Chiswick finished with 13 kills and 15 digs and junior setter Miquela Martinez (Santa Fe, N.M.) had 24 assists and 10 digs for Felician.
The Golden Falcons are on the road again on Tuesday, facing West Chester University at 7 p.m.
