Box Score WATERBURY, Conn. – Despite 23 kills and 21 digs from junior outside hitter Hannah Chiswick (Pittstown, N.J.), the Felician University women's volleyball team was defeated, 3-1 (25-22, 28-30, 21-25, 12-25) by host Post University in Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference action on Tuesday night at the Drubner Center.
The Golden Falcons were chosen first and the Eagles second in the CACC North Division in the 2021 conference Preseason Coaches Poll.
Post (4-9, 1-0 CACC) produced 17 service aces en route to victory. Senior setter Elizabeth McGrath (Watsonville, Calif.) had 22 kills, seven digs and seven aces for the Eagles.
Felician (3-9, 1-1) closed a 16-8 Set 1 deficit to 23-22 but could not complete the comeback. In Set 2, however, the Golden Falcon saved four set points, closing out the set on kills by Maddie Sloan (Caldwell, N.J.) and Chiswick to even the match.
The night turned in the middle of Set 3. The visitors built an early 15-8 edge and still led, 17-12, only to see the Eagles rattle off eight consecutive points – a stretch which included three McGrath aces. The Golden Falcons crawled back to within 20-19 but never again drew even.
Post seized the momentum by snapping a 3-3 tie with a 12-0 Set 4 run to pull away for the victory.
Sloan finished with eight kills for Felican and freshman Bridget Thompson (Houston, Texas) recorded six kills, 17 digs and three aces. Senior libero Alondra Diaz Sanchez (Toa Alta, Puerto Rico) produced 27 digs and six assists.
Freshman Madelynn Boop (Reno, Nev.) totaled 20 kills and 17 digs for the Eagles, and graduate libero Nelly Diaz (Land'O'Lakes, Fla.) pulled up 30 digs.
Felician plays a rare home Saturday night match on Sept. 25, entertaining Bloomfield College at 7 p.m. in Rutherford, N.J.
