Box Score SECAUCUS, N.J. – Nyack College scored on a rebound in the 70th minute and went on to a 1-0 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference women's soccer victory over visiting Felician University on Wednesday afternoon at Laurel Hill Park. The match began the 2021 CACC schedule for both schools.
Nyack freshman Lara Noe (Tubingen, Germany) scored the game's only goal.
After Felician successfully defended two corner kicks in the match's opening minute, midfield play dominated the balance of the opening half. The teams combining for only four shots (3-1 Nyack) during a scoreless 45 minutes.
The Golden Falcons were dangerous early in period two. Junior Aroa Herrero Nieto (Almeria, Spain) saw a shot bound off the crossbar fewer than four minutes into the half, and sophomore Lindsay Whaley (Subic Bay, Philippines) put a pair of offerings on frame shortly thereafter that were stopped by Warrior goalkeeper Lea Zehringer (Losnich, Germany).
After Herrero Nieto sailed a free kick over the bar during the 66th minute, the action flipped to Nyack's offensive third. A shot by Shanice Rapp (Untergrombach, Germany), the Warriors' third in a three-minute span, was stopped by Felician keeper Julia Aguilar (North Bergen, N.J.) but Noe was the first player to the rebound and slipped the ball past Aguilar at 69:48.
Felician junior Lindsey Riera (Belleville, N.J.) came off the bench to attempt three shots in the time remaining, but none were on goal. Zehringer earned the shutout with four saves. Aguilar stopped three shots for Felician.
Felician finished with a 9-8 edge in shots, including 8-5 after halftime.
The Golden Falcons host Holy Family University on Saturday at 1 p.m. in Lyndhurst.
