Box Score RUTHERFORD, N.J. – Bloomfield College captured the final two sets to claim a 3-2 (11-25, 25-19, 20-25, 25-14, 15-12) Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference women's volleyball victory over host Felician University on Saturday night at Job Gymnasium.
Bloomfield (4-2, 3-0 CACC) posted a team .236 attack percentage for the night, guided by 53 assists and seven digs from sophomore setter Lauryn Hansford (Plainfield, N.J./Hudson Catholic). Felician was led by freshman outside hitter Bridget Thompson (Houston, Texas/St. John XXIII Prep), who hit .441 with 15 kills and seven digs.
The deciding set was tied, 7-7, following a kill by Felician senior Maddie Sloan (Caldwell, N.J./James Caldwell). However, the Bears claimed the next three rallies, using a service error, an attack error, and an ace by Sophia Wintonick (Colonia, N.J./Hudson Catholic) to move ahead for good.
The Golden Falcons pulled back to within 12-11, but out of a Bloomfield timeout, another service error doomed the hosts. An ace by Jakara Henry (Houston, Texas/J. Frank Dobie) put the Bears on the brink of victory. Felician saved one match point before a block by Jaizahir Marrero (Carolina, Puerto Rico/Academia Discipulos de Cristo) and Esther Dogbe (Irvington, N.J./Hudson Catholic) handed Bloomfield the victory one hour, 40 minutes after the first service.
Felician (3-10, 1-2) hit .609 during the opening set, but just .125 for the rest of the match.
Sloan totaled 13 kills, 10 digs and three aces and Hannah Chiswick (Pittstown, N.J./Delaware Valley) added nine kills for the Golden Falcons. Freshman setter Alexis Rigdon (Lake Worth, Fla./Spanish River) amassed season highs of 33 assists and eight digs.
Marrero led three attackers in double figures in kills for Bloomfield with 16 kills and 13 digs while hitting .333. Dogbe hit .400 with 14 kills and three blocks.
Felician is back in action on Wednesday when it welcomes Caldwell University to Job Gym at 7 p.m.
