Box Score RUTHERFORD, N.J. – Felician University came up with a 3-0 (25-23, 25-21, 25-16) Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference women's volleyball victory over visiting Caldwell University on Wednesday night at Job Gymnasium.
The Golden Falcons (4-10, 2-2 CACC) put forth a solid two-way effort. On the offensive side, they posted a season-high .200 attack percentage. Junior outside hitter Hannah Chiswick (Pittstown, N.J./Delaware Valley) hit .289 with a match-high 17 kills and senior outside Maddie Sloan (Caldwell, N.J./James Caldwell) had 11 kills and nine digs.
The Felician defense held Caldwell to a .102 attack percentage and amassed a 70-56 advantage in digs. Senior libero Alondra Diaz Sanchez (Toa Alta, Puerto Rico/Colegio de La Salle) led all players with 26 digs.
The Golden Falcons recovered from an early 9-4 Set 1 deficit for a 13-13 tie. The set was even on four more occasions, including at 23-23, but consecutive Chiswick kills handed the victory to the hosts.
The second set saw the teams remain within two points of each other until a kill and an ace by Sloan gave Felician a 17-14 edge and led the Cougars to call timeout. Caldwell came back to within one point three times, but never equalized. Ahead, 22-21, the Golden Falcons captured the final three rallies.
Felician forced the Cougars into a negative attack percentage for Set 3. The Golden Falcons jumped in front, 13-6. Ahead, 17-14, Felician took control with a 4-0 run and closed out the match shortly thereafter.
Sophomore opposite hitter Reese Sherwood (Salem, Ore./Sprague) paced Caldwell (2-8, 2-2) with 13 kills and 14 digs. Junior middle blocker Jelena Vucic (Smederevo, Serbia/Gimnazija Smederevo) totaled six kills and a season-high five digs.
Felician travels to Spring 2021 CACC champion Holy Family University on Friday at 8 p.m.
