Box Score RUTHERFORD, NJ – Felician Women's Volleyball Team (2-19 / 2-9 CACC) battled against Bloomfield College Thursday night at Jobs Gymnasium but loses 3-1 (25-8, 25-19, 33-31, 25-13) in the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference match-up.
In a lopsided first set, the Bears (10-5 / 9-1 CACC) dominated the Golden Falcons, 25-8. Up until the 6th point, Felician kept up with its competitors, but a Bloomfield rally, ignited by a Karla Burgos kill, allowed the Bears to run away with the first set win.
The Golden Falcons started off the second set 2-0 with a kill by Sara Betts (Goodyear, AZ) and allowed the lead to volley back and forth until Bloomfield held a 23-19 lead and ended the set with the final 2-points on a Felician service error and an ace by Desiree Cruz.
The third set extended to 33-31 in favor of the Golden Falcons to clinch its first and only set win, 2-1. The home team led the Bears by 4 points, the largest lead for Felician in the match, by a Catherine Lentsch (Elkhorn, Neb) kill, a block by Lentsch and Betts, and a set error by the Bears. After the Felician rally, Bloomfield was able to come back with 5 points to take the lead 12-11.
Later, the score was tied 23-23. Hannah Chiswick (Pittstown, NJ) was able to put the Golden Falcons one point closer to the set victory with a kill, 24-23. But once again, the Bears were able to tie it up until the final two points. Felician was able to close out the third set with a Bears service error and a Lentsch kill, 33-31.
With the fourth set underway, it started off much like the second and third. The score flip flopped until 5-5, where Bloomfield was ready to put the match away and held a 12-5 lead. The Golden Falcons attempted to chip away at the lead, 20-13, but the set was put to rest with a final 5-point rally to end match, 3-1.
The Golden Falcons were led by Betts with 9 kills on 23 total attacks (.217) and Chiswick with 8 kills on 33 attacks (.000). Libero, Natalie Kashian (Secaucus, NJ) was the defensive foundation with 12 digs and Lentsch with 4 blocks.
The women's volleyball team will be back in action Saturday as they travel to face CACC opponent Wilimington (Del.) at 6pm.
