Box Score NEWARK, DEL, – Felician University freshman Darla Kertesz (Paramus, N.J.) scores her first career collegiate goal in their 3-1 loss against Wilmington University (Del.) on Saturday afternoon at Wilmington.
Felician women's soccer team went down 1-0 in the first half on a Wilmington goal by sophomore Julia Yuhase, assisted by classmate Gianna Bucs. The Golden Falcons responded in the second half on a 53rd-minute goal by Kertesz.
Wilmington goalie, Mio Nakajima, received a pass back from one of her defenders, and due to high pressure by Carlie Koziol (East Rutherford, N.J.), Nakajima was only able to kick the ball just outside her own 18-yard box when it was intercepted by Kertesz. Kertesz then took one touch around her defender and kicked the ball into the lower left corner of the net to tie, 1-1.
The Wildcats then took the lead 10 minutes later on a free-kick goal by junior defender Samantha Emmi. In the 68th minute, sophomore Emilie Larsen extended the Wildcats' lead, 3-1, by a goal assisted by Yuhase.
Felician's Koziol and Kate Braun (Long Branch, N.J.) both had two shots each. Kertesz, Julia Vaas (Rotterdam, Netherlands) and Nicole Jenal (Bethpage, N.Y.) all had one shot. Golden Falcons freshman goalie Karlie Cabrera (Suwanee, Ga.) started the game and saw one shot, and sophomore goalie Julia Aguilar (North Bergen, N.J) saw four shots and saved two. Wilmington's Nakajima faced two shots and saved one.
Felician women's soccer drops to 2-11-2, 1-8 in the CACC. They travel to Connecticut on Tuesday to face the University of Bridgeport in a 3p.m. conference match.
