WAYNESBORO, PA- Sophomore, Ashley Ferrara (Beachwood, NJ), was the top finisher for Felician's Women's Bowling team at the Mount Shootout hosted by Mount Saint Mary's (Md.) on Saturday and Sunday at Sunshine Lanes.
The 6-team tournament began on Saturday with 5 traditional matches and on Sunday, 5 baker matches. In both days, there was a total of 38 bowlers, and Ferrara ended the weekend event in 10th place.
Ferrara started each match and was able to record a 181 average in the sum of 5 games with a total of 905 pins. In the first match, she recorded a 207 in a loss against Howard University, however, she was able to outperform her first match score and tallied a 209 in the second match against Mount Saint Mary's. Despite her increase in performance, the Golden Falcons were not able to notch its first win in the two face offs.
In the final results, Felician finished in 5th place with a 145.1 average, tallying 7,255 pins. The Golden Falcons started off with a 4-game losing streak but was able to finally record its first win against University of Pittsburgh – Greensburg (UPG), 807-718. Moving into the second round on Sunday, Felician was able to win its first Baker contest against UPG, once again.
Marie Ferris (West Deptford, NJ) finished Saturday in 12th place with an 842 total and a 168.4 average. Felician was able to secure the 15th and 16th spots by Senior, Madelyn Weston (Hatboro, PA) and Sophomore Sandra Hornor (Brick, NJ). Weston fired a 793 (158.6) and Hornor took 16th with a 782 (156.4). The final Golden Falcon to close out the weekend was Mia Aish (Teaneck, NJ) with 434 (86.8) in 30th place.
Mount Saint Mary's won the tournament 9-1 with a 197.8 average and a total of 9,892 pins.
Felician will be competing this weekend at the Golden Bear Invitational at Berks Lanes in Sinking Spring, PA hosted by Kutztown University of Pennsylvania.
