Box Score EAST STROUDSBURG, Pa. – Felician University freshman defender Kate Braun (Long Branch, N.J.) scored a goal during her collegiate debut, but the Golden Falcons were defeated by host East Stroudsburg University, 7-1, in non-conference action on Saturday afternoon at Eiler-Martin Stadium.
Felician was playing its opening game of 2022, its 25th season. Sophomore Millie Smith (Middletown, Md.) scored two goals with two assists and junior Rebecca Kotula (Wyomissing, Pa.) picked up a goal and two assists for East Stroudsburg (2-0).
Felician sophomore goalkeeper Julia Aguilar (North Bergen, N.J.) made eight saves during the first 31 minutes to help keep the match scoreless, and Kotula saw another shot bound off the crossbar during that stretch. But the hosts broke through during the 41st minute, with freshman Mia Chapman (Mount Carmel, Pa) finally getting a ball past Aguilar.
The Warriors put the game away by scoring three times during the first 11 minutes of period two. ESU was ahead, 5-0, when Braun spoiled the shutout with an unassisted tally with 20:45 remaining. The Warriors notched goals during the 72nd and 89th minutes for the final margin.
ESU piled up advantages of 34-6 in shots and 7-1 in corner kicks. Aguilar finished with nine saves in 65 minutes, and Felician junior Brieanna Martins (Clifton, N.J.) stopped three shots in relief. Freshman Emmy Clarkson (Frederick, Md.0 earned the victory in goal for the Warriors with four saves in 71 minutes.
Felician plays the first of two games in Texas on Sept. 2, taking on St. Mary's University at 8 p.m. EDT.
