Box Score

RUTHERFORD, N.J. – After playing the season's first three Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference matches over the last week, the Felician University women's volleyball team stepped away from league action on Friday night. However, the Golden Falcons were defeated by visiting Frostburg State University, 3-0 (25-18, 25-19, 25-16), at Job Gymnasium.

Felician was meeting the Bobcats for the first time. The Golden Falcons were playing for the third occasion in four nights. Senior outside hitter Hannah Chiswick (Pittstown, N.J./Delaware Valley) led the hosts with eight kills and added eight digs. Freshman opposite hitter Sara Betts (Goodyear, Ariz./Estrella Foothills) added seven kills and six digs.

Frostburg State senior setter Edwyna Lainez (Corona, Calif./Centennial) compiled 35 assists in guided her team to a .229 attack percentage. Junior outside Beverly Braun (Irvine, Calif./Woodbridge) hit .500 with 12 kills and 12 digs for the Bobcats (10-4).

FSU recovered from an early three-point first-set deficit to create a 14-10 edge. The Bobcats maintained a margin of 3 to 5 points for much of the set. Ahead, 22-18, the visitors captured the final three rallies to take the early lead in the match.

The hosts played from behind for the rest of the night. FSU jumped out to an 11-4 Set 2 lead. Felician closed a 19-10 deficit to 22-19 following an ace by Betts, but once again, the Bobcats won the last three points.

A similar pattern played out during the third set. Frostburg state went on a 6-0 run to turn a tie into an 11-5 lead, and were eventually up by as much as 20-9. The hosts came as close as 22-16, but after the Golden Falcons erred on a serve, consecutive kills by Braun ended the match.

Felician received 22 assists and 12 digs from senior setter Miquela Martinez (Santa Fe, N.M./St. Michael's). Golden Falcon junior libero Natalie Kashian (Secaucus, N.J./Secaucus) collected 13 digs, while her FSU counterpart, sophomore Fiona Gonzalez Medina (Odenton, Md./Arundel) finished with 16.
