Box Score 2 PEMBROKE, N.C. – The Felician University women's volleyball team lost two non-conference matches during the University of North Carolina-Pembroke Invitational on Saturday at Lumby Guaranty Bank Court. Felician dropped a 3-0 decision to East Stroudsburg University in its morning match before falling by the same 3-0 score to the host Braves later on Saturday.
Freshman opposite hitter Sara Betts (Goodyear, Ariz.) combined for 15 kills on the day for the Golden Falcons (0-5).
The Golden Falcons and Warriors played the first match of the two-day, six-team event with first service coming at 8 a.m. It was East Stroudsburg who thrived with the early start time, capturing 16 of the final 17 points of the first set and going on to a 25-8, 25-15, 25-19 victory. Betts shared match-high honors with 11 kills.
ESU (3-2) hit .301 while holding Felician to a negative attack percentage. The Warriors also owned edges of 11-2 in aces and 7-4 in blocks. ESU junior Kaylee LoPresto (Litchfield Park, Ariz.) recorded 11 kills and eight digs. Senior setter Miquela Martinez (Santa Fe, N.M.) amassed 17 assists and 14 digs for the Golden Falcons.
During Felician's afternoon match, UNC Pembroke (1-4) hit .347 in picking up its first win of the season, 25-15, 25-11, 25-14. Brave senior middle Brianna Warren (Indian Trail, N.C.) hit .733 with 12 kills and three blocks. Felician never led in Set 1 and was up only briefly early in the second set. UNCP quickly recovered from an early 6-3 hole in Set 3 by winning 17 of the next 19 rallies.
Hannah Chiswick (Pittstown, N.J.) totaled six kills and 10 digs and Natalie Kashian (Secaucus, N.J.) lifted a team-high 11 digs for Felician. UNCP junior Vanja Przulj (Belgrade, Serbia) hit .440 with 12 kills and eight digs.
Felician completes its stay in Pembroke with matches on Saturday against Lenoir-Rhyne University (10 a.m.) and Wingate University (2 p.m.).
