Box Score Rutherford, NJ- The Golden Falcons women's soccer team are still on the hunt for their first conference win of the season as they lost to Alliance University, 2-1, on late second-half goals at Tryon Field, Wednesday afternoon.
Felician was on the board within the first 8-minutes on a header from Katinka Ummels, her 4th of the season (Urmond, Netherlands). The Golden Falcons were awarded a corner kick which led Anne Noonan (Hawthorne, NJ), who tallied her first assist of the season, to beautifully place the ball inside the goal box to find Ummels for the first goal of the game, 1-0.
For majority of the match, Felician led the charge until late in the second half. Alliance's Tess Pearce shot was blocked by keeper Brieanna Martins (Clifton, NJ), but hit the hands of a Golden Falcons player inside the goal box which resulted in a penalty kick. Sophomore, Lara Noe, took the PK and found the back of the net to tie it up, 1-1, with 16-minutes left to play.
5-minutes later, Alliance gained momentum as Alexis Kufta darted on the right side of the field and centered the ball to Samara Phillips-Hines to take the lead, 2-1. With about 20 seconds to play, Noonan had a last chance scoring opportunity for the Golden Falcons, but her shot was blocked by the keeper and headed out of the scoring position by Alliance. As time ran out, the score was in favor of Alliance, 2-1, awarding them their first conference win of the season.
Starting goalie, Karlie Cabrera (Suwanee, GA), managed to save 4 shots in the first half of play. Martins made her 5th game appearance being inside the goal and managed to save 4 goals as well.
As a result from today's match, Alliance tied up the all-time series to 12-12-1 as they are on a 2-game win streak against Felician.
The women's soccer team drops to 1-6-1 overall and 0-3 in CACC play. They will hit the road Saturday to face CACC opponent, Georgian Court University, at noon.
