CONCORD, N.H. – The Felician University men's golf team finished 12th out of 15 schools at the Penmen Fall Invitational on Monday and Tuesday at Beaver Meadow Golf Course. It was the Golden Falcons' final event prior to the 2022 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference Championship meet.
For the second consecutive tournament, freshman Pablo Hidalgo (Marbella, Spain/IES Guadalpin) was the top performer for Felician. Hidalgo tied for 14th place out of 84 competitors. On the 6,500-yard layout, he carded an even-par 72 on Monday, and followed up with a 76 on Tuesday for a tournament score of 148.
Freshman Cesar Castellano (Madrid, Spain/San Patricio El Soto) was the only other Golden Falcon to finish among the top half of the field. Castellano signed for 80-76—156 and tied for 41st place.
Graduate student Gonzalo Maldonado Felices (Almeria, Spain/Stella Maris) tied for 62nd with scores of 80-82—162. Sophomore Kristian O'Grady (Thiells, N.Y./Albertus Magnus) recovered nicely on Tuesday, moving up seven spots in the final standings with rounds of 91-76—167 to tie for 74th place. Junior James Surovcik (Philadelphia, Pa./New Mexico Military Academy) finished 79th (88-83—171).
Felician sat in 13th place after Day 1 with a team score of 320. The Golden Falcons shot 310 on Tuesday and moved up one slot in the final standings, passing the College of Saint Rose. Felician's 630 strokes were six back of 11th-place Franklin Pierce University and three better than the Golden Knights.
The host Penmen shot 286 on Tuesday to earn the team championship, passing two teams and carding a two-under-par 36-hole score of 583. Patrick McCarthy of Merrimack College was the medalist with 71-69—140 (-4).
The CACC Championship is a 54-hole, seven-team event over two days. It will be hosted by Post University on Monday and Tuesday, Oct. 3-4, at Watertown (Conn.) Golf Course.
