Box Score 2 PEMBROKE, N.C. – Felician University senior women's volleyball setter Miquela Martinez (Santa Fe, N.M.) surpassed 2,000 career assists during the Golden Falcons' 3-0 (25-13, 25-16, 25-17) non-conference loss to Wingate University on Saturday afternoon. The match closed out Felician's two-day, four-match stay at the University of North Carolina-Pembroke Invitational. Earlier on Saturday, the Golden Falcons had gone down to a non-league 3-0 (25-12, 25-11, 25-23) defeat to Lenoir-Rhyne University.
Martinez totaled 17 assists and 15 digs versus Lenoir-Rhyne and added 18 assists and three digs against the Bulldogs. She ended the day with 2,010 assists during her four-year Golden Falcon career, becoming the third Felician player to surpass 2,000. Nicole Degenhardt holds the record of 2,535 from 2006-07 and 2009-10, and Susie McKeever amassed 2,090 assists from 2012-15.
Wingate (6-1) compiled a team .392 attack percentage, and also owned edges over the Golden Falcons of 10-3 in aces, 31-22 in digs, and 7-2 in blocks. Bulldog freshman Emily Johnson (Fort Collins, Colo.) hit .556 with 12 kills. Senior Hannah Chiswick (Pittstown, N.J.) had six kills and six digs and freshman Sara Betts (Goodyear, Ariz.) also put down six kills for Felician (0-7).
During the Golden Falcons' morning match, Lenoir Rhyne (3-3) quickly jumped out to a two-sets-to-none edge. Felician scored the first four points of Set 3 and led by as much as 13-8 before the Bears evened things up at 19-19. The set was again tied at 23-23, only for LRU to take the last two points and claim the match.
The Bears' Ashley Hawkins (Olin, N.C.) led all players with 12 kills and added seven digs and teammate Emmaleigh Allen (Wooster, Ohio) collected 11 kills and nine digs. Betts led Felician with seven kills and Natalie Kashian (Secaucus, N.J.) picked up a career-best 13 digs.
Felician plays another non-conference match at the College of Saint Rose on Tuesday at 7 p.m. in Albany, N.Y.
