Box Score RUTHERFORD, N.J. – The women's soccer teams from Felician University and the College of Staten Island played to a 0-0 draw in non-conference action on Wednesday afternoon at Tryon Field. Felician was participating in its 2022 home opener.
Golden Falcon freshman goalkeeper Karlie Cabrera (Suwanee, Ga./Lambert) made her collegiate debut. Cabrera earned the shutout with three saves.
Felician owned a 15-7 advantage in shots for the day. Sophomore keeper Sara Villacres (Richmond Hill, N.Y./Christ the King) stopped nine shots to help preserve the tie for Staten Island.
The hosts created the most dangerous opportunities on the day. Late in the first half, Felician junior Lindsay Whaley (Subic Bay, Philippines/Brent International) got off two clear, close attempts in a 20-second span, but both headed into the waiting arms of Villacres.
With 18 minutes remaining in the contest, a ball was played ahead to Golden Falcon freshman Natalia Ogando (Queretaro, Mexico/Tec de Monterrey) which freed her on the left side. Ogando sent a shot high across the 18-yard box, but Villacres dove back and to her left to place an outstretched hand on the ball. Felician also came up empty on the ensuing corner kick.
Felician junior Carlie Koziol (East Rutherford, N.J./Becton Regional) led all players with six shots. The teams were whistled for a combined 31 fouls, including 20 on the visitors, and four bookings.
The result ended losing streaks for Felician of 16 games overall and 12 in a row at home.
