ROCHESTER, N.Y. - Felician women's basketball closed out the Red Hawks Classic with their final contest against Daemen University, the back-to-back East Coast Conference Champions, Saturday afternoon. The Golden Falcons dropped to a 0-2 record for the weekend after the Wildcats held the squad to just eight points in the third fto run away to hand Felician the 74-57 loss.
The green-and-gold came out on a 6-2 run to start the contest, but was ultimately upended by the Wildcats when they snagged the 22-14 lead. Performance wise, the Golden Falcons showed out in the second when they went on another run (11-3) in the final five minutes before intermission to outscore the opposer 20-13 and trailed by one at the half, 35-34.
In the second half of play, Daemen dominated the hardwood throughout the third and minimized any Golden Falcon scoring opportunities when the green-and-gold netted eight points and the Wildcats 23. With the 16-point deficit, the Golden Falcons were not able to overcome the Wildcats offense and dropped for a second time in the weekend tournament, 75-57.
Key Players:
- Uzor Uchidiuno (Toronto, Canada) and Ane Valle (Vitoria-Gasteiz, Spain) paced the Golden Falcons with 11-points apiece. Valle was able to snag 3 steals and 9 rebounds in the process while Uchidiuno had 6 rebounds.
- Katherine Ritchie (Mentone, Victoria, Australia) was the third Golden Falcon to score in double-digits when she posted 10.
Box Score Insight:
- Felician struggled from the line as they shot 5-11 (45%), but went 44% (4-9) from behind the arc.
- Majority of the Golden Falcons points came from inside the paint with 34, but the squad was able to record 18 points from Erica Egan (Dublin, Ireland), Deviney Jackson (Long Island City, N.Y.), and Adriana Perez (Galapagar, Madrid, Spain) coming off the bench.
- The lead was changed three times and it came from the first half after the Golden Falcons held the lead in the first few minutes of play to flop back-and-fourth until Daemen was able to seal the deal in the offensive categories.
After the weekend the Golden Falcons are 0-2 and are looking for their first win of the season at home when they host Assumption University next Saturday in JJJ Gymnasium at 1:00pm.
