Golden Falcons Comeback Halted by #4 Greyhounds in Home Opener

RUTHERFORD, N.J. - Felician women's basketball (0-3) welcomed #4 Assumption University Greyhounds to JJJ Gymnasium Saturday afternoon for their home opener. The Golden Falcons' 25-point fourth quarter forced the Greyhounds onto their heels for a host comeback, but was ultimately halted as the visitors ran away with the 52-60 non-conference win.

The Golden Falcons were led by senior Aisha Traore's (Bronx, N.Y.) double-double of 15-points and 16-rebounds while she went 7-12 from the field.

Here's What Happened:
  • Felician opened up regulation with a 7-2 run on points from Ane Valle (Vitoria-Gasteiz, Spain) and Katherine Ritchie (Mentone, Victoria, Australia). They would end up holding the lead throughout the first quarter, 12-11, to then be confined to just a measly seven points in the second as the Greyhounds piled on 13 for the 19-24 advantage at half.
  • Early green-and-gold foul trouble of three starters ignited the Assumption offense throughout the remainder of the contest.
  • After intermission, the Golden Falcons were once again held to a single digit quarter (8) with when Assumption had their largest lead of the afternoon of 17, 27-44.
  • During the final stanza, Felician cut down the double-digit deficit to 9 when Traore netted a layup with three-minutes left to play. Valle clutched a pair from the line, 50-57, and Traore recorded another point with just over a minute remaining for a green-and-gold comeback.
  • As the forced foul play calls stopped the clock, Assumption was sent to the line and went 3-4 to edge the hosts for the 52-60 win and the Golden Falcons loss.

Box Score Insights:
  • Traore was spread throughout the stat sheet when she also recorded three steals and two blocks in the contest.
  • Ritchie was the final Golden Falcons to score in double-digits with 11 and added two assists while Valle had nine points and three assists.
  • Uzor Uchidiuno (Toronto, Canada) only scored a pair but led the Felician defense with four massive blocks and seven rebounds to aid in the green-and-gold play.
  • Five more Golden Falcons recorded a point: Mar Vidal (Tona, Spain) (4), Adriana Perez (Galapagar, Madrid, Spain) (5), Erica Egan (Dublin, Ireland) (3), Maci Covello (Kearny, N.J.) (2), and Deviney Jackson (Long Island City, N.Y.)) (1).
  • Felician shot 72% (8-11) from the free-throw line while going 30% (21-68) from the field in comparison to Assumption who shot 66% (19-29) from the line and only 31% (20-64) from the field.
  • As mentioned earlier about quick foul trouble for the Golden Falcons, the squad posted 26 personal fouls throughout.
The Golden Falcons will be back in action next weekend when they host their Holiday Tournament on Nov. 25-26 in JJJ Gymnasium with Molloy University, Dominican (N.Y.) University, and Queen's (N.Y.) College. The green-and-gold will play the second game on Saturday at 2:00pm versus Queens and then on Sunday they will play the 12:00pm game against Molloy.
