Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Felician's Hot Hand Extinguished on the Road Versus Pace

PLEASANTVILLE, N.Y. - Felician men's basketball is coming off a eventful Monday night  victory over Mercy University, when they broke two team records and Anas Amos (Newark, N.J.) joined the 1,000-point club. Fast forward to Wednesday night, the Golden Falcons hit the road to face Pace University for a non-conference match-up and ultimately dropped, 90-94, to post a 2-2 record in the first week of their 2023 campaign.

The Golden Falcons were presented ample of scoring opportunities two days ago when they shot 40+ three's and bucketed 23 of them. Throughout the contest with the Setters, the Golden Falcons recorded 18 trey's and shot an even 50% from behind the arc.

Here's What Happened:
  • In the opening half of regulation, the Golden Falcons trailed the Setters 38-46, shooting 41% from the field compared to the host's 53% as the Setters seemed to have extinguished the Felician hot hand.
  • The green-and-gold re-ignited their offense in the second half of play when they battled back from a 10-point deficit, 45-55, to take the lead, 60-57, for the first time since the opening minutes, 4-3.
  • Felician's lead was relinquished moments later as the Setters netted two trey's and a pair of transition points to put Felician back into a deficit, 65-73.
  • Time was the killer for the Golden Falcons when the final seconds rang for the squad. During that time frame, the green-and-gold posted five points on a converted turnover for a fastbreak and a quick trey to sit behind the hosts 90-94. However, despite the momentum shift, time dwindled and ran out for their second loss of the season.
Key Players/Box Score Insights:
  • Jaylen Colon (Paterson, N.J.) led the team consistently through the contest when he finished with 21-points, five rebounds, four steals, and three assists.
  • Amos finished right behind Colon with his second 20-point game of the season and Justin Davis (Jersey City, N.J.) and Dee-End McRae (Newark, N.J.) were the final two to record double-digit points; Davis 18 - 4-9 from behind the arc and McRae 15 - 5-9 from the field and 2-3 from three.
  • Jhonny Tovar (Caracas, Venezuela) and Jay'von Jackson (Plainfield, N.J.) recorded six points apiece and Jabri Fitzpatrick four to wrap up the score card for the green-and-gold.
  • Despite being limited opportunities, the Golden Falcons remained consistent as they posted a 50 three-point percentage throughout the entire contest - 3/6 first half & 6-12 in second.
The Golden Falcons will be back in action TOMORROW to play Divison I Manhattan College in Riverdale, N.Y. at 7:00pm. The game will be streamed on ESPN+; be sure to tune in and support!
