BLOOMFIELD, N.J. - Felician women's basketball hit the road for their second Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference match up of the season at Bloomfield College Saturday afternoon. Freshman,
Katherine Ritchie (Mentone, Victoria, Australia) recorded a career high of 21 points as she aided in the Golden Falcons win, 68-62.
Here's What Happened:
- Felician opened up the contest on a 6-2 run when Ritchie, Mar Vidal (Tona, Spain) and Ane Valle (Vitoria-Gasteiz, Spain) each netted a pair. During the remainder of the first half, the Bears battled back and forth with the green-and-gold to steal the lead at 15, but the Golden Falcons eventually closed the opening stanza with a 21-17 advantage on a final second trey by Ritchie.
- With the largest lead being 13 for the Golden Falcons, the squad entered halftime with a commanding 39-26 lead over the hosts; Felician held the Bears to just nine points.
- Throughout the second half, the hosts out scored the visiting Golden Falcons to make rally back late in final quarter to push Felician on their heels.
- The third quarter ended on a high note for the Golden Falcons when Valle and Uzor Uchidiuno (Toronto, Canada) pushed the Felician advantage to 13 with only 10-minutes remaining in the contest.
- In the fourth, the Bears dominated the defensive end and forced Felician to commit eight turn overs which allowed the hosts to come back from the deficit and equalize the score at 59; the Bears went on a 10-0 run on those eight green-and-gold turnovers.
- After a Vidal bucket and a Aisha Traore (Bronx, N.Y.) freebee the squad out ran the Bears and closed out the afternoon with a 68-62 win.
Box Score Insights:
- Ritchie ended with 21 points, eight rebounds and three assists while Uchidiuno recorded a double-double of 10-points and 11 rebounds.
- Vidal led the team with six assists and tied with Uchidiuno with 10 points.
- The Golden Falcons shot 42% from the field while the Bears shot a whopping 29%, however, the Bears netted nine three pointers in which put them back in the game during the final minutes prior to Felician pulling away.
The Golden Falcons are now 2-5 overall and 2-0 in the CACC. They will be back in action next weekend when they host Southern New Hampshire University in JJJ Gymnasium at 1:00pm.
