Jackson's Sharp Shooting Launches Golden Falcons Over Bulldogs

RUTHERFORD, N.J. - Felician men's basketball (6-3 / 2-0 CACC) returned to JJJ Gymnasium for a non-conference match up with Bowie State University Maryland Monday night. Jay'von Jackson (Plainfield, N.J.) shot 70% from behind the arc for a tally of 21 points, a season high, and launched the Felician squad to their third straight win, 89-75.

This is also the green-and-gold's second meeting in the men's basketball program with the Bulldogs in which Felician now holds the 2-0 advantage over the visitors.

Here's What Happened:
  • Felician opened up the game on a high note with a dunk from Jhonny Tovar (Caracas, Venezuela). From there, the score would become tied at 2, but would never equalize again when the Golden Falcons went on an 11-6 run ignited by a Justin Davis (Jersey City, N.J.) trey, 13-6.
  • The largest lead of the first half for the Golden Falcons was featured at 18 points when Tavian Pullock (Paterson, N.J.) made a hard drive in the lane for a fastbreak pair.
  • By the end of the first half, the Bulldogs were able to cut the deficit to 12 to enter intermission, however the Felician defense locked in during the second to hold off the visiting Bulldogs.
  • Dee-End McRae (Newark, N.J.) opened the second half with a bucket and pushed the Felician advantage back to 14. With the Bulldogs having an answer to stay in the contest, Tovar shut down any momentum the opposers' attempted to rally with a three.
  • Five of Jackson's seven threes came from with the final half; two of them being back-to-back and gave Felician the 56-42 lead.
  • When the Golden Falcons recorded their 19-point lead on a McRae jumper, the Golden Falcons ultimately closed out the night with the 89-75 victory for their third straight win.
Box Score Insights:
  • Jackson led the team with 21 points shooting 70% from the field and behind the arc while also recording three rebounds and one steal.
  • Jaylen Colon (Paterson, N.J.) and Tovar recorded 18 points apiece while Colon had six assists and Tovar had six rebounds.
  • McRae led the green-and-gold on the board with 11 rebounds and recorded six points, three assists and three steals.
  • Anas Amos (Newark, N.J.) was the final Golden Falcon to score in double figures with 13.
  • Felician recorded 23 points off turnovers when they forced the Bulldogs to commit 19 of them. Additionally, 31 points came from the Felician bench in which Jackson, Jabri Fitzpatrick (North Brunswick, N.J.), Abdul Shanunu (Accra, Ghana), and Pullock aided in the large chunk of the Felician lead.
The Golden Falcons will hit the road for a four game series to close out the 2023 year, and will ignite their stout at the Division I Institution of Merrimack College on Saturday at 7:30pm.
