ORANGEBURG, N.Y. - Felician women's basketball entered a frigid Wednesday night to a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference match up with 2022-23 CACC Champions,
Dominican (N.Y.) University, in Orangeburg, N.Y.
In a downfall of a second quarter, the Chargers were able to rally up points at the half to hand the Golden Falcons their second conference loss of the season, 54-66.
Here's What Happened:
- Felician jumped out in front with an 8-2 advantage over the hosts on points by Ane Valle (Vitoria-Gasteiz, Spain) and Mar Vidal (Tona, Spain). However, midway through the first quarter, the Chargers captured the 14-15 lead and the Golden Falcons stole it back one more time until the Chargers got the final grasp at the end of the opening 10-minutes, 16-18.
- After a back-and-fourth first quarter, the green-and-gold were held to only eight points in the second - four Golden Falcons posted a bucket - and the Chargers recorded 13 to enter intermission, 24-31.
- With Felician's best performance being put on display in the third, eight of the 17 points came from Katie Richie (Mentone, Victoria, Australia), the Golden Falcons could not upend the hosts with the final stanza about to commence, 41-52.
- Dominican would see their largest lead of the night of 19, 42-62, and Felician would be able to knock it down to 10 on consecutive points from Erica Egan (Dublin, Ireland) and Vidal, but it was too late and the score favored the Chargers, 54-66.
Box Score Insights:
- Aisha Traore (Bronx, N.Y.) and Valle both recorded a double-double in contest when they both grabbed 14 boards while Valle finished with 12 points and Traore 10.
- Vidal paved the way in the night for the Golden Falcons when she finished with 13 points, eight rebounds, four assists, and one steal.
- Felician outperformed the Chargers in field goal percentage - Golden Falcons finished with a 34% (22-65) while the Chargers recorded a 31% (23-75).
- The Golden Falcons also out-rebounded the hosts by a large margin of 60-39.
The women's basketball squad (5-11 / 5-2 CACC) will return to JJJ Gymnasium on Saturday when they host Holy Family University at 1:00pm.
