RUTHERFORD, NJ. – Felician women's basketball hosted Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference opponents, Holy Family University, in JJJ Gymnasium Saturday afternoon.
The Golden Falcons held their largest lead of the day of 13 midway through the second quarter, but a 14-5 Tiger run put the visitors within two at the half and ultimately dropped 62-69 after the final quarters.
Here's What Happened:
- Katie Ritchie (Mentone, Victoria, Australia) and Adriana Perez (Galapagar, Madrid, Spain) ignited the Golden Falcon offense to put the squad up quick, 9-4. Ane Valle (Vitoria-Gasteiz, Spain)Â would force the score to feature 11 green-and-gold points as the team closed out the first quarter in front, 15-11.
- The Golden Falcons posted a 13-point lead three times in the second quarter, the first time from a Valle fastbreak bucket, 25-12, and the next two from Deviney Jackson (Long Island City, N.Y.), 27-14 and 29-16. The sequence went like this… Tigers would chip away, and the Golden Falcons would deny comeback access.
- Holy Family dwindled the Lady Falcon lead with a 14-5 run through five minutes to finalize the second quarter down two, 32-30.
- For the second time in the contest, Holy Family equalized the score at 34 and Valle would strive to keep the Golden Falcon offense alive with a pull-up jumper, 36-34, as well as Uzor Uchidiuno (Toronto, Canada), 39-37. Ultimately, after another tie at 39, the Tigers swept the lead from Felician and maintained it for the remainder of the afternoon.
- In the final stanza, the visitors posted their largest lead of 11, 45-56, and points by Valle, Aisha Traore (Bronx, N.Y.) and Perez cut the deficit to seven, 54-61. Perez would put up two more treys later in the fourth, but after her second bucket the Golden Falcons were halted for the 62-69 defeat.
Box Score Insights:
- Valle led the charge with 24 points, five assists, and two steals and Perez had 14 points, six steals, and shot 50% (4-8) from behind the arc.
- Traore led the boards with seven for the Golden Falcons and Uchidiuno had four blocks to defend the basket.
- The Golden Falcons outperformed the Tigers from the field as they shot 45% (27-60) while the visitors posted a 33 (22-65) percentage.
Women's Basketball (5-12 / 5-3 CACC) will hit the road next Saturday to Delaware. to play Goldey-Beacom College at 1:00pm.
