Felician University Men’s Basketball team secures road victory over Bowie State

Box Score Rutherford, NJ – The Felician Men's Basketball team made its first road trip of the 2024-2025 season, resulting in the Golden Falcons returning home with a victory.

Behind a strong offensive effort, the Golden Falcons defeated Bowie State 88-82. Felician has now won all three of the all-time matchups between the two programs.

Early on, it was the Jonathan Izemef show for the Golden Falcons. The senior from White Plains, Maryland, carried the load offensively out of the jump, scoring the first eight points for the Golden Falcons. After Izemef set the tone in the post, the rest of the team followed as they shot a staggering 56.6% from the floor over the first 20 minutes of action.

While Izemef dominated the first 10 minutes of play, Jabri Fitzpatrick caused matchup problems for the Bulldogs over the final 10 minutes of the first half.

Fitzpatrick, the team's leading returning scorer from a season ago, scored 17 first-half points, all of which came after the 10:21 mark, as a trio of triples near the end of the first half gave the Golden Falcons a comfortable cushion to work with heading into the second half of play.

While Bowie State would cut the Felician lead to just two early in the second half, that's the closest the Golden Falcons would allow them to get. The score fluctuated over the final 17 minutes of action, but the one constant was that the Golden Falcons held the lead and never relished it.

Fitzpatrick led all scorers with 23 points, while Marcus Pierce had another strong outing, scoring 20 points of his own. Izemef finished the afternoon with an impressive 19-point, 9-rebound outing, while Donovan Long came off the bench to provide a double-digit scoring effort.

Not only did the Golden Falcons excel offensively, but they also did a great job of controlling the paint. Felician out-rebounded Bowie State 43-23, outscoring them 44-34 in the paint. The Golden Falcons also capitalized on second-chance opportunities, dominating the Bulldogs in this category (18-5).

Now at 2-0 in the early season, the Felician University Men's Basketball team has a week off before traveling to Manchester, New Hampshire, to take on Southern New Hampshire University in another Saturday afternoon non-conference contest.
