Women's Basketball Downs Georgian Court in A Close Call Fourth Quarter

LAKEWOOD, N.J. - Women's Basketball comes out on top after a close call fourth quarter with the Georgian Court Lions Saturday afternoon in Lakewood, N.J.

The Golden Falcons surrendered their second half lead with five and a half minutes of regulation to ultimately trail the Lions by six, 54-61, one minute later. Felician battled back to equalize the score at 67 to ultimately secure the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference cross-over win, 72-67.

Here's What Happened:
  • Throughout the entire contest, both teams did not hold a lead that was higher than seven points. The first quarter was all green-and-gold when they snagged the quick 4-3 lead by an Ane Valle (Vitoria-Gasteiz, Spain) jumper and closed out the opening minutes in front, 16-12. The Lions also didn't record a field goal until 1:22 left in the first.
  • Georgian Court in the second quarter ignited a 10-0 run post their own lead advantage over the Golden Falcons, 16-22, but Mar Vidal (Tona, Spain) put an end to the Lions fire with a bucket from behind the arc. Katie Ritchie (Mentone, Victoria, Australia) eventually gave Felician the lead right back on a trey, 27-26, as the Golden Falcons closed out the first half leading, 29-26.
  • Coming out of halftime, the Golden Falcons grinded to maintain their advantage throughout the third quarter. The Lions would cut their deficit to one, but Adriana Perez (Galapagar, Madrid, Spain), Aisha Traore (Bronx, N.Y.) and Valle recorded points to edge the hosts.
  • By the final stanza, Felician was on top with a 49-45 lead, however, that lead would soon dwindle down on consecutive green-and-gold turnovers to have the hosts tie and take the lead with 5:30 remaining in regulation.
  • About a minute later, the Lions would put themselves up by seven - the largest lead of the contest -, 54-61, and would continue to post their seven point advantage as time went on. A 9-3 Felician run would feature a 69-67 score in favor of the Golden Falcons with a minute left and they would go on to score three more and held the Lions to none for the 72-69 victory.
Box Score Insights:
  • Valle led all Golden Falcon scorers with 23 points and grabbed five steals and seven rebounds while Ritchie posted a double-double of 11 points and 11 rebounds.
  • Perez also recorded 11 points, three steals and two assists, and Traore ended the day with 11 boards. Uzor Uchidiuno (Toronto, Canada) defended the paint and had four blocks.
