BRIDGEPORT, C.T. - The battle for a spot in the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference Men's Basketball post season is coming down to the wire. Only two team secured their spots in the South Division, but the North Division, which includes Felician and the University of Bridgeport, is up for grabs.Â
The Golden Falcons dropped to the Purple Knights, 65-74, Tuesday night and in the event red-shirt senior
Jay'von Jackson (Plainfield, N.J.) recorded his 1,000th career point wearing green-and-gold.Â
Here's What Happened:
- The Golden Falcons picked up their momentum quick into the start of play when Jhonny Tovar (Caracas, Venezuela), Dee-End McRae (Newark, N.J.), and Jackson posted the first 11 points for the squad, 11-5.Â
- Bridgeport started to close in on the Golden Falcons when they put themselves within three, 18-15. Jabri Fitzpatrick (North Brunswick N.J.) continued to edge the Purple Knights with a bucket in the paint, 20-15, but the hosts were right there with the green-and-gold and equalized the score at 20. Felician would obtain the lead and the Purple Knights would tie for the next few possessions until Bridgeport grabbed the 26-27 lead and would end the first half in front, 34-36.Â
- Fitzpatrick tied it up once again in the opening minutes of the second half and ultimately ignited a 8-0 run for the Golden Falcons, 42-36. The Purple Knights did a full reset on the court with their five which allowed them to go on a little run of their own to flip the script, 42-43.Â
- Thee more lead changes occurred since the hosts scored their 43rd point, but the Golden Falcons edged the squad with Fitzpatrick bucket and a three-point play from Jaylen Colon (Paterson, N.J.), 49-45. Jackson would give the team their final lead of the night , 59-58, until Bridgeport recorded the final lead change and to never relinquish it, 65-74.Â
Box Score Insights:
- Jackson becomes the 14th Men's Basketball player to join the 1,000th point club;Â he joins his current teammates, Colon, McRae, and Anas Amos (Newark, N.J.). The gaurd led all scorers with 18-points and six rebounds.Â
- McRae had 16-points and a game-high of eight rebounds while Fitzpatrick had nine points and seven rebounds.
- The Golden Falcons shot well from the field with 40% (28-69), but struggled from the long range going 4-20 (20%).Â
Felician Men's Basketball (12-13 / 8-6 CACC) will be back in action to face Post University on Saturday at 3:00pm in Waterbury, C.T.Â
