PEMBROKE, N.C. - Felician Softball (1-3) continues their opening weekend in day two at the UNC-Pembroke Invitational Saturday. For game two of the day, the Golden Falcons went head-to-head with Davis and Elkins where the squad dropped 7-15 after late Senator rallies in the fifth and sixth inning.
Felician held the 5-3 lead after the Senators went on a 5 run rally in the bottom of the fourth to take the 7-8 lead, but would ultimately pile on seven more through the fifth and sixth to hand Felician the loss.
Here's What Happened:
- Immediately to start the contest, Felician runners on base that eventually led Jenna O'Reilly (Suffern, N.Y.) to touch home for the first run of the game on a Alexis Velotta (Menifee, C.A.) single, 1-0.
- Davis and Elkins answered back with three run right after, 1-3, but Felician stood their ground and recorded two runs in the third by a 2 RBI at pay from Makalya De La Rosa (Winchester, C.A.), 3-3.
- In the fourth, the Golden Falcons regained their advantage when O'Reilly swiftly placed herself in scoring position. Daisha Howard (Westbury, N.Y.) sent home the graduate student, 4-3, on a triple and touched home right after on a Senator error, 5-3.
- Velotta boasted her first home run of 2024 in the same inning and was able to secure an RBI in the process for the 7-3 lead.
- Unfortunately, the Felician momentum fizzled out as the Senators posted runs through the final three innings of the contest to hand Felician the 7-15 loss.
Box Score Insights:
- Velotta went 3-3 at the plate with a HR, a walk, and 3 RBI. O'Reilly went 1-3 with two runs and Kathryn Steinmetz (Chula Vista, C.A.) and De La Rosa went 2-4.
- Riley Williams (Corona, C.A.) recorded the loss in 3.0 innings pitched and Kylie Sharapan (Las Vegas, N.V.) and Hannah Lutz (Napanoch, N.Y.) also made appearances in the circle for an inning.
- In the contest, Felician tallied three doubles, two triples, and one home run.
The softball squad will be back in action tomorrow for the final day of the weekend as they close it out with single games with Kutztown and West Virginia State University.
