WEST PALM BEACH, F.L. - Baseball (10-12) is at the end of their early 2024 campaign trips when they started their Friday morning with a rematch with Southern Connecticut State University in West Palm Beach, F.L.Â
Earlier in the season in South Carolina, the Golden Falcons dropped twice to the Owls, but this time it was a split decision as Felician took the game one win and the Owls game two.Â
GAME ONE: 9-INNINGS
Here's What Happened:
- Felician wasted no time putting runs on the board when they recorded eight through four innings and the Owls to none. As Southern Connecticut was able to find their groove after posting one in the bottom of the fourth, they trailed the green-and-gold 11-5 with three innings remaining.Â
- After the fourth when Ricky Voss (Eatontown, N.J.) recorded the first green-and-gold run of the day, the Golden Falcons seemed to have fizzled out... or so the Owls hoped.
- In the top of the sixth, Chris Biolsi (Edison, N.J.) homered to give Felician a second wind to edge the Owls, 12-5. Fast forward to the seventh, Dauri Genao (West New York, N.J.), Ricky Voss (Eatontown, N.J.) and Jack Scrivanic (Tinton Falls, N.J.) each recorded RBI at bats to give the Golden Falcons 15 and the 10 run advantage over the Owls.Â
Box Score Insights:
- Voss went 4-6 with two runs while Genao went 3-5. Both Haiden Walters (Coral Springs, F.L.) and Thomas Kendrick (Jackson, N.J.) went 2-4 with three runs, but Walters recorded two walks.Â
- Voss and Biolsi recorded their second home runs of the season in the game one contest.Â
- Mike Caldon (Matawan, N.J.) pitched 4.2Â innings from the mound and struck out three as did Logan Waltz (Hazlet, N.J.) who pitched 3.1 innings and had three strikeouts.Â
GAME TWO: 7-INNINGS
Here's What Happened:
- In a lower scoring and less eventful game two, the Owls started the 7-innning contest the same way Felician started the first. Immediate runs in the first four innings to force their opponents into a deficit they could not claw their way out of.Â
- Southern Connecticut added five runs through three innings while the Golden Falcons had two in the bottom of the third thanks to Kendrick and Genao, 5-2.Â
- By the end of the fifth, the score featured a 7-2 score in favor of the Owls, however, the Golden Falcons attempted to come back on a Walters 3 RBI home run - his second of his collegiate career - to put the squad within two.Â
- Ultimately, the Owls added two more to their advantage and held Felician scoreless for the 5-9 green-and-gold defeat.
Box Score Insights:
- Genao led the team going 3-4 at the plate and Kendrick and Cole Porter (River Vale, N.J.) went 2-4.Â
- Walters went 1-4 with two runs and three RBI's thanks to his homer.
- Nick DeCarlo (Jackson, N.J.) started game two on the mount and struck out two and Derek Vonhorn (Hillsborough, N.J.) closed the day with four strikeouts.Â
