LYNDHURST, N.J. - Felician baseball featured their home opener at Breslin Field Sunday afternoon with a 9/7 doubleheader against the University of New Haven.
The Golden Falcons posted a sweep over the Chargers winning the nine inning contest, 3-2, on a walkoff, and the seven, 4-2.
Game One: NINE INNINGS
The first run of the contest didn't appear until New Haven posted a 2 run top seven. The Golden Falcons home turf advantage played in their favor in game one when a
Chris Biolsi (Edison, N.J.) walk off handed the squad the 3-2 victory.
Here's What Happened:
- It was a three up, three down first five innings between the two squads, that is until New Haven started to find their swing and posted a two run top seven to lead the green-and-gold, 2-0.
- What looked like a game one shut out for the Chargers, turned into a battle back for the Golden Falcons in the final inning. Relief pitcher, Logan Waltz (Hazlet, N.J.) held the Chargers to their lone two runs of the event to lead the hosts to a three run bottom nine rally.
- It all started with a Thomas Kendrick (Jackson, N.J.) and Jack Scrivanic (Tinton Falls, N.J.) walk while Ricky Voss (Eatontown, N.J.) was hit by a pitch to load the bases with no outs. Dauri Genao (West New York, N.J.) and Jose David Medrano (North Bergen, N.J.) recorded RBI at bats to tie it up at two and left it in the hands of Biolsi for the win.
- With the newcomer battling at the plate, Biolsi connected with the ball for a single deep into center field for the walk off hit the green-and-gold needed for the 3-2 game one win of the day.
Box Score Insights:
- Biolsi and Medrano went 1-3 at the plate with an RBI while Genao went 1-4 with an RBI.
- Starting pitcher, Mike Caldon (Matawan, N.J.), pitched 6.0 innings and struck out eight. Waltz, who recorded his first win of the season at the mound, pitched 3.0 innings and struck out 6 for a combined 14 strikeouts for the Felician duo.
- Haiden Walters (Coral Springs, F.L.) and Kendrick swiped a base each while Medrano secured the lone double of the contest.
Game Two: 7 INNINGS
In game two, the Golden Falcons didn't change much of their starting line up, however,
Nick DeCarlo (Jackson, N.J.) appeared on the mound with
Dillon DiBartolomeo (Franklin Lakes, N.J.) behind the plate and
Julian Uejima (River Edge, N.J.) and Genao in the field.
Here's What Happened:
- Felician ignited the game two contest with a swift, 2-0, lead after two innings thanks to Kendrick and Cole Porter (River Vale, N.J.).
- By the third, the Chargers would score a run of their own to chip away at the Golden Falcon advantage and would ultimately load the bases in the top of the fourth for a potential tie or lead change. However, DeCarlo was able to strike out the final two outs to keep the score in favor of the green-and-gold, 2-1.
- In the fourth and fifth inning, Genao and Scrivanic would be sent home for the last two runs of the day for Felician to edge their opposer, 4-1.
- During the top half of final inning, the Chargers added a run to make it 4-2, however, the Felician squad closed it out with a 4-2 victory for the 2-0 opening day sweep.
Box Score Insights:
- Genao and Kendrick went 2-3 with an RBI while Porter went 1-2 with a walk.
- DeCarlo clinched his first win of the season with 4.0 innings pitched with nine strikeouts while Dylan Morrill (Teaneck, N.J.) secured the save.
- Porter ended the game with two stolen bases and Kendrick and Uejima one.
