PHILADELPHIA, P.A. - Felician men's basketball made their way back to the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference postseason when they faced S#1 Jefferson University Tuesday evening.Â
In the previous meeting between the two squads, Felician toppled Jefferson in the final moments of the contest securing the win, 82-78, in JJJ Gymnasium. Going into today, there were three active Golden Falcons averaging double figure points, but there was only one that was able to reach that standard in the 66-76 defeat to the Rams.
Here's What Happened:
- The Rams, who had the home court advantage in the playoff event, jumped out in front first and Felician was able to tie it at seven on a Jabri Fitzpatrick (North Brunswick, N.J.) layup, but Anas Amos (Newark, N.J.) gave the lone green-and-gold lead, 9-7.Â
- After Jefferson netted a trey to rob the lead back from the Golden Falcon grasp, 7-10, they never relinquished it for the remainder of the night, however, Felician did not go down without a fight.Â
- Each time the Golden Falcons would equalize the score, the Rams would jump right back in front not allowing the green-and-gold to hold the advantage. The first half of play closed with the hosts in front, 32-41, and to ignite the second half Fitzpatrick and Jhonny Tovar (Caracas, Venezuela) aided in the 6-0 run to slash the lead to three. 38-41.Â
- The next few points during the opening minutes of the second half came from Fitzpatrick and Tovar in which they were able to put the green-and-gold within one point of the Rams. However, time was not on the Felician side and the final buzzer sounded with Felician falling to the #1 seed in the south 66-76.Â
Box Score Insights:
- Fitzpatrick led the Golden Falcons with 25 points and shot 53% (10-19) from the field and 50% (3-6)Â from the long range.
- Tovar ended the night with nine points, eight rebounds and four assists while Amos, Pullock, and Jaylen Colon (Paterson, N.J.), had eight points apiece.Â
- Felician only committed eight turnovers while they forced 11 from the Rams to be able to convert 12 points in their favor.Â
Despite the outcome of Tuesday night, the 2023-24 Felician men's basketball season was an eventful one. For example, Amos, McRae, and
Jay'von Jackson (Plainfield, N.J.) joined the 1,000-point club, head coach Ivan Lewis reached 100 wins, and Colon broke the all-time steals record.Â
