Tovar Leads Felician to 88-61 Win Over Goldey-Beacom with Historic Triple-Double

Rutherford, NJ — The Felician University men's basketball team delivered a commanding 88-61 victory over Goldey-Beacom College on Saturday afternoon in Rutherford. With standout performances across the roster, the Golden Falcons improved to 10-6 overall and 3-3 in conference play, while the Lightning fell to 5-12 overall and 2-4 in the league.

Johnny Tovar made history in the game, recording his second triple-double of the season, finishing with 16 points, 14 rebounds, and 10 assists. This achievement marks the first time in Felician men's basketball history that a player has registered two triple-doubles in a career, making Tovar's performance even more remarkable.

Felician's offense was firing on all cylinders, with Abdul Shanunu leading the way with 22 points, hitting 8-of-13 from the field, including five three-pointers. Marcus Pierce contributed 14 points and five assists, while Jonathan Izemef added 13 points and 10 rebounds, securing a double-double. Jared White chipped in with 11 points and played a key defensive role. The team shot an impressive 61.1% from the field, proving their offensive efficiency throughout the game.

Defensively, Felician controlled the game by limiting Goldey-Beacom to just 30.4% shooting, including 24.2% from three-point range. The Golden Falcons dominated the glass, out-rebounding the Lightning 43-30. Felician also capitalized on their defense by scoring 14 points off turnovers and 42 points in the paint.

Felician came out strong, shooting 73.9% in the first half to take a 43-33 lead into the break. In the second half, the Golden Falcons kept their foot on the gas, extending their lead to as many as 29 points late in the game. Despite solid individual performances from Goldey-Beacom, including Tre Powell's 17 points and Zakari McQueen's 12, the Lightning couldn't keep pace with Felician's offensive firepower and defensive tenacity.

Felician will return to action at home on Wednesday, January 22nd, at 8:00 PM against Bloomfield College.
