Rutherford, N.J. – Despite a strong second-half push, the Felician University men's basketball team was unable to overcome an early deficit, falling 79-74 to Chestnut Hill College on Saturday afternoon at the Job Gymnasium.
Felician (12-8, 5-5 CACC) trailed 42-33 at halftime but outscored the Griffins 41-37 in the second half, closing the gap in the final minutes before Chestnut Hill (10-10, 6-4 CACC) secured the win at the free-throw line.
Senior Jared White led the way for the Golden Falcons with 20 points, shooting 8-of-15 from the field and a perfect 4-of-4 from the free-throw line. Jhonny Tovar added a double-double performance with 14 points and 10 rebounds, while Abdul Shanunu contributed 12 points, knocking down four three-pointers.
Chestnut Hill's Pettit had a game-high 29 points, going 13-of-14 from the free-throw line. Alejandro Cybak added 14 points and seven rebounds, while Kamal Lee provided a spark off the bench with 15 points, hitting five three-pointers.
The Golden Falcons held the advantage in points in the paint (34-20) and points off turnovers (21-11), but Chestnut Hill's sharp three-point shooting (11-of-27, 40.7%) and efficiency at the free-throw line (22-of-30, 73.3%) proved to be the difference.
Felician will look to bounce back when they return home to face CACC rival Caldwell University on Wednesday, February 5th at 8:00 PM at the Job Gymnasium.
