Box Score BRONXVILLE, N.Y. – Senior outside Jenna Matesic (Paramus, N.J.) put down nine kills and added a match-high 15 digs, but she and the Felician College women's volleyball team were defeated, 3-0 (26-24, 25-18, 27-25), by host Concordia (N.Y.) College on Wednesday evening at the Meyer Center.
The defenses were dominant for both sides, as the teams each hit under .100 and combined for 15 blocks. Concordia (4-14, 4-8 CACC) erased an early 10-3 deficit in Set 1 to move ahead 23-20. Felician clawed back to tie things at 24-24 on a Tonia Ford (Bayonne, N.J.) block, but then committed back-to-back errors allowing the Clippers to take the set.
Set 2 featured eight ties and five lead changes before Concordia broke away by scoring the final five points. While Felician never led in the third set, the visitors saved five match points after trailing, 24-20, before finally succumbing. A solo block by Clipper senior Olivia Thompson (Peoria, Ariz.) ended the match.
Freshman opposite Olivia Emerson (Sparks, Nev.) posted eight kills and freshman setter Sarah Shebel (Chandler, Ariz.) finished with 24 assists and eight digs for Felician (1-17, 1-11). Chelsea Zurcher (Crofton, Md.) topped Concordia with 11 kills and four blocks.
The match contained 50 combined attack errors, 13 service errors, and eight ball-handling errors. Concordia earned a sweep of the two-match season series from the Golden Falcons for the second consecutive year.
