Men's Soccer Is Unable To Overcome Second-Half Deficit

Box Score

BRONXVILLE, N.Y. – Felician College redshirt freshman midfielder Corey Telfer (North Brunswick, N.J.) picked up his first collegiate goal, but the Golden Falcons were defeated by host Concordia (N.Y.) College, 3-2, in Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference men's soccer action on Wednesday afternoon at Holtdorf Field.

In a wide-open offensive affair, Concordia (6-5-1, 5-4-1 CACC) peppered Golden Falcon senior goalkeeper Daniel Wroblewski (Brick, N.J.) with 26 shots and eight corner kicks. The Clippers broke a 1-1 halftime tie fewer than five minutes into period two when sophomore Ovan Oakley (Kingston, Jamaica) made a steal in the 18-yard box and put a shot into the bottom-left corner of the net.

Concordia built a two-goal advantage in the 71st minute on a 30-yard blast by junior Jesus Alvarez-Riesco (La Coruna, Spain). It proved to be a key insurance tally when, 34 seconds later, a Clipper defender was called for a handball in the penalty area. Felician junior Chris Hall (Newcastle, England) converted the kick to pull the visitors to within 3-2 and 19:06 showing on the clock.

In the time that remained, the Golden Falcons earned two corner kicks and got off four shots, but sophomore keeper Ruel Gordon (Westmoreland, Jamaica) and the Clippers held strong. Felician finished with 15 shots (11 after halftime), led by seven from Hall.

Concordia opened the scoring at the 36:12 mark, but shortly after the ensuing kick-off, Azedine Maazouzi (Brussels, Belgium) played a ball ahead that got Telfer free on a breakaway to knot the score at 36:31.

Felician (2-9-1, 2-6-1) had trouble containing Oakley, who finished with a goal and an assist and led all players with nine shots. Gordon was credited with four saves for Concordia, which is riding a six-match unbeaten streak.

Wroblewski stopped a season-high eight shots.

With three CACC games remaining, Felician sits two points behind eighth-place Nyack College for the final conference playoff position.
