Box Score LYNDHURST, N.J. – Senior striker Alysia Arcona (Hackettstown, N.J./Hackettstown) scored two minutes, 30 seconds, into the second overtime period to lift Felician College to a 2-1 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference women's soccer victory over visiting Bloomfield College on Wednesday night at the Lyndhurst Recreation Complex.
Felician (2-6-3, 1-3-3 CACC) extended its school record by playing in its sixth overtime game of the season. The Golden Falcons are 1-2-3 in those contests. Arcona's goal ended an eight-match winless streak for the hosts, and marked the first time this season Felician has scored more than once in a game.
In the first opportunity for either side of the second extra session, Felician senior midfielder JoJo Pisani (Wyckoff, N.J./Hasbrouck Heights) lifted a pass over a defender toward the right post. Arcona gained control of the ball and sent a low hard shot across the penalty area and inside the left post to end the contest.
Felician out-shot the Deacons, 11-6, in a scoreless first half. Bloomfield, however, had the best opportunity. In the 28th minute, a pass across the box to freshman midfielder Taylor Chianese (Cheapachet, R.I./East Providence) had Felician goalkeeper Julia Sheridan (Hasbrouck Heights, N.J./Community) beaten. However, Golden Falcon freshman defender Carly Brantner (Waldwick, N.J./Eastern Christian) was in the right spot and cleared Chianese's shot off the goal line.
Bloomfield keeper Sashagay Spence (St. Elizabeth, Jamaica/Lacovia) stopped a Golden Falcon breakaway in the early stages of the second half to keep the affair scoreless. But with just over 20 minutes remaining, the hosts broke through. Arcona lifted a corner kick which found the head of senior Juliet Numfor (Hillsborough, N.J./Stanstead College). Numfor was able to re-direct the ball past Spence's outstretched hands and into the net.
The situation then reversed itself. Sheridan stopped a Chianese attempt from close range in the 76th minute for one of her seven saves. But shortly thereafter, a lead pass by Dani Andreas (Jackson, N.J./Jackson Memorial) got Chianese free 1 v. 1 with Sheridan. As Sheridan approached, Chianese cut left, dribbled past her, and put the ball into an open net with 8:59 left in regulation.
As time wound down, Sheridan suffered an injury in a collision with a Bloomfield attacker. She finished regulation, but was replaced for extra time by freshman Bjonda Ademi (Wayne, N.J./Wayne Hills), who made one save. Arcona's goal gave Ademi her first collegiate victory.
Spence ended a busy night with 10 saves for the Deacons (2-7-1, 1-3-1), who trailed, 19-16, in the final shot tally. Chianese and Arcona led their teams with six shots apiece.
