Box Score RUTHERFORD, N.J. – The Felician College men's basketball team exploded for 53 second-half points to turn a four-point halftime deficit into an 80-74 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference victory over visiting Post University on Tuesday night at Job Gymnasium. Felician (3-4, 2-1 CACC) was playing its 2013-14 home opener.
Senior guard Anthony Obery (Roselle, N.J./Abraham Clark) (8-13 FG, 5-6 FT) topped four Golden Falcon double-figure scorers with 23 points. Obery added five rebounds and two steals in 34 minutes of action. Felician received 10 points and a game-high 12 rebounds from junior frontcourtman Jeyvi Miavivululu (Paterson, N.J./Paterson Catholic).
Felician sprung out to an 18-8 lead after eight minutes of play. But Post (1-4, 1-2) received consecutive three-point field goals from senior guard Effrin Ellison (Waterbury, Conn./Sacred Heart) to move ahead for the first time, 27-25. Eagle senior Jerry Cummings (Queens, N.Y./Notre Dame Prep) scored the period's final four points, allowing the visitors to bring a 31-27 edge into the locker room
Post assumed its largest lead, 38-31, with 17:02 to play in regulation. But seven different Golden Falcons took part in a 17-5 run that put the hosts back ahead by five at the 11:50 mark. A lay-up by Jamal Reid (Newark, N.J./East Side) moved Felician ahead for good, 55-53, with 8:26 remaining, and the hosts extended their advantage to 66-57 on a Miavivululu tip-in at 4:59. The Eagles closed to within four points on two occasions in the late stages, but each time Obery answered on the opposite end as Felician closed out the victory.
Led by Miavivululu and a career-high seven rebounds from Reid, Felician rolled up a 46-31 edge on the glass. Reid finished with 14 points, and teammate J.R. Pringley (Elizabeth, N.J./Linden) totaled 11 points and five rebounds.
Eagle senior guard Derrick Strong (St. Louis, Mo./Central CC) topped all players on the night with 24 points.
