Box Score

RUTHERFORD, N.J. – The University of Bridgeport men's basketball team shot 61 percent from the floor en route to a 113-85 non-conference victory over visiting Felician College on Saturday evening at Harvey Hubbell Gymnasium. The game tipped off the four-team, two-day UB Classic, and marked the 2013-14 season opener for both squads.

Bridgeport never trailed, opening up a 25-10 lead after 8 ½ minutes before settling for a 50-41 halftime advantage. The Purple Knights then reeled off 63 second-half points. Their edge never dipped below nine points in period two, and the final 28-point margin matched their largest of the night.

A pair of newcomers came off the Felician bench in their collegiate debuts to lead the Golden Falcons in scoring. True freshman Tim Massado (Wilmington, Del.) scored 17 points, including three three-point field goals, in 21 minutes, while first-year junior Jeyvi Miavivululu (Paterson, N.J.) picked up 15 points in 22 minutes. Junior center Will Thompson (Teaneck, N.J.) added nine points and a team-high six rebounds for the visitors.

Bridgeport placed five scorers, including four starters in double figures, led by 26 points and eight rebounds from senior forward Ivan Simic (Belgrade, Serbia) (8-10 FG). JoJo Swift (Brooklyn, N.Y.) scored 23 points, and Antoine Brown (Brooklyn, N.Y.) posted 15 points, seven assists, and six steals.

The contest contained 47 personal fouls and 77 free-throw attempts. The Purple Knights took better advantage of their opportunities at the foul line, making 29 of 35 (83 percent) as compared to 53 percent (17-32) for the Golden Falcons.

Felician allowed the second-most points in the history of its program. The Golden Falcons were defeated by New Hampshire College, 114-52, on Jan. 29, 2000.
