Pringley's 32 Not Enough For Men's Basketball At Pace

Box Score

PLEASANTVILLE, N.Y. – A career-high 32 points and eight rebounds from Felician College junior forward J.R. Pringley (Elizabeth, N.J.) were not enough as the Golden Falcons lost to host Pace University, 93-88, in overtime in non-conference men's basketball action Saturday afternoon at the Goldstein Fitness Center.

A successful jump shot by Pace sophomore guard Nick Jackson (Brooklyn, N.Y.) with one minute, one second, on the clock provided the final points of regulation, and the teams went into extra time knotted at 80-80. Pringley's basket with 2:47 left in overtime tied the score for the 14th and final time, at 84-84. But Felician (4-7) came up empty in its next four possessions, allowing the hosts to build a five-point lead as time wound under 0:30. Four Setter free throws in the waning seconds would secure the victory.

The Golden Falcons led by as many as eight points in the first half before Pace (3-7) recovered for a 45-41 halftime advantage. The teams then spent the rest of the day within two possessions of each other. The lead changed hands on nine occasions, including six after halftime.

Both teams saw four players score in double figures. Pringley shot 12 for 16 from the floor, 3 of 4 on three-point attempts and 5 for 6 at the foul line in 40 minutes. Frontcourtmate Jeyvi Miavivululu (Paterson, N.J.) recorded 14 points and 10 rebounds. Felician's starting guard combination of Jamal Reid (Newark, N.J.) and Anthony Obery (Roselle, N.J.) combined for 26 points and 11 assists.

Pace senior guard Denzel Primus-Devonish (Riverdale, Md.) turned in 25 points, seven assists and six steals. The Setters received double-doubles from Jonathan Merceus (Union, N.J.) (23 points, 12 rebounds) and Jamaal James (Brooklyn, N.Y.) (16 points, 12 rebounds).

The Golden Falcons offset a 56-percent shooting day by committing 25 turnovers and causing only eight. Pace owned a 34-13 advantage in points off turnovers.

Felician is idle until returning to Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference play on Jan. 4 by traveling to Holy Family University.
