Box Score BLOOMFIELD, N.J. – Felician College cut a 23-point second-half deficit to 10 in the closing minutes, but came no closer in its eventual 88-74 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference men's basketball loss to host Bloomfield College on Wednesday night at the B.C. Gymnasium.
Felician junior forward Jeyvi Miavivululu (Paterson, N.J.) came off the bench to tally a season-high 19 points with eight rebounds in 20 minutes of action. Bloomfield senior forward Mike Williams (Trenton, N.J.) led all players with 22 points.
The Golden Falcons, who never led, fell behind, 8-0, after fewer than two minutes of play. A three-point field goal by Steve Henderson (West Orange, N.J.) gave Bloomfield (7-6, 5-1) a 33-17 edge with 6:04 left in the opening period, and the hosts went into halftime ahead, 45-32.
After a three-point play by Felician guard Anthony Obery (Roselle, N.J.) made the score 54-40 in favor of the Deacons with 15:34 remaining, Bloomfield canned threes on its next three possessions to assume its largest lead of the night. Later, a 10-1 Felician run made the score 70-58 at the 7:08 mark, and the visitors pulled to within 78-68 on a Will Thompson (Teaneck, N.J.) bucket at 3:20. But Deacon guard Dondre Whitmore (Trenton, N.J.) helped hold off Felician by shooting 6 for 8 at the foul line down the stretch.
Obery totaled 14 points, five rebounds and five assists for Felician, and Thompson finished with nine points and seven rebounds. The Deacons received 20 ponts from Marvin Williams (Jersey City, N.J.) and 14 more from Clarence White (Bronx, N.Y.). The Golden Falcons missed 16 free throws on the night, shooting 52 percent at the charity stripe.
Felician, which has lost five consecutive games, travels to Concordia (N.Y.) College on Saturday for a 3 p.m. tip.
