WILMINGTON, Del. – The Felician College women's soccer team erased a 3-0 deficit before setting for a 4-4 tie with host Goldey-Beacom College on Sunday afternoon at Churchman-Sawin Field. Junior striker Macki Groves (Millville, N.J.) scored twice for Felician (5-3-3, 4-2-2 CACC).
Goldey-Beacom (4-4-1, 1-4-1) tallied with 18 seconds remaining to force overtime. After a scramble in front of the net, GBC freshman Amy Runciman (Luton, England) pushed a ball to teammate Nicole Curry (Mount Laurel, N.J.) Curry got the ball past the goal line to even the game at 4-4. After an uneventful first 10 minutes of extra time, the Golden Falcons took four shots in the fourth period, including two on frame, but could not come up with the game-winner.
With fewer than 10 minutes left in the first half, Felician found itself trailing, 3-0. Groves then scored twice in a span of three minutes, the latter on a header with 5:58 on the clock, to pull the visitors within 3-2 at halftime.
Felician got the equalizer in the 65th minute from an opportunistic Kirsten Mortelliti (Hammonton, N.J.). The senior defensive midfielder found herself inside the 18-yard box during a scramble, and was able to finish for her second goal of the season. Just 2 ½ minutes later, senior midfielder Jordan Farley (Brick, N.J.) gave the Golden Falcons their first lead of the game, converting on a 25-yard free kick.
Goldey-Beacom owned a 26-18 shot advantage, including 24-14 in regulation. Felician junior goalkeeper Julia Sheridan (Hasbrouck Heights, N.J.) made a season-high 10 saves, and she and the Golden Falcon defense successfully defended eight Lightning corner kicks. Valarie Orth (Pittsgrove, N.J.) stopped four shots for GBC.
Felician freshman Katina Kozlowski (Milton, N.Y.) registered a pair of assists on the day.
Goldey-Beacom senior striker Alexandra Smith (Pennsville, N.J.) nabbed her team's first two goals, making her the all-time leading goal-scorer for the Lightning with 31.
