Box Score LYNDHURST, N.J. – Concordia (N.Y.) College scored with one minute, 43 seconds remaining in regulation to earn a 2-1 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference men's soccer victory over host Felician College on Tuesday evening at the Lyndhurst Recreation Complex. Concordia (7-2-2, 6-2-2 CACC) is in first place in the CACC and is ranked No. 7 in the most recent NCAA Division II East Region coaches' poll.
All of the match's scoring occurred in the final 18 minutes. Clipper sophomore Ovan Oakley (Kingston, Jamaica/Kingston College) put the visitors on the scoreboard, recording his league-high 12th goal of the season with 17:17 to play.
Felician (2-12, 2-7) used a bit of nifty teamwork to get even. Senior defender Alex Jean (Notre Dame de Londres, France/Jean Mermoz) was able to reach the 18-yard box with a throw-in. Senior midfielder Chris Hall (Newcastle, England/St. Cuthbert's) got his head on the ball and directed it to classmate Rafa Coronel (Mexico City, Mexico/Thomas Jefferson Institute) at the far post with 11:48 to play.
On the game-winner, Oakley crossed the ball to Clipper freshman Nabeel Qawsami (Yonkers, N.Y./Yonkers) in the middle of a congested penalty area. With relief Felician goalkeeper Anthony Tsouhnikas (Clifton, N.J./Clifton) partially screened, Qawsami put the ball into the right half of the net.
The Golden Falcons generated an opportunity for the equalizer, but with fewer than 30 seconds remaining, Jean's corner kick was headed away by a Clipper defender.
Though Concordia out-shot the Golden Falcons, 11-3, in a scoreless first half, it was the hosts who created the most dangerous scoring chances of the period. In the 17th minute, Clipper keeper Ruel Gordon (Westmoreland, Jamaica/Mannings) made a quick-reaction save on a short-range shot from Hall. In the closing minutes of the half, Felician had a 3-on-1 opportunity, but pushed a shot wide.
Concordia finished the night with a 20-10 shot advantage. Felician starting keeper John Burns (Saddle Brook, N.J./Saddle Brook) was credited with nine saves in 83 minutes before departing due to injury. Gordon stopped three shots for the Clippers.
