Box Score LYNDHURST, N.J. – Senior defender Samantha Petosa (Spotswood, N.J./Spotswood) scored with 26 seconds remaining in regulation time to give Felician College a 2-1 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference women's soccer victory over visiting Concordia (N.Y.) College on Wednesday night at the Lyndhurst Recreation Complex.
Felician (6-3-3, 5-2-2 CACC) owned a 10-3 first-half shot advantage, but trailed, 1-0, at intermission. In the middle stages of the period, Concordia freshman Kaela Blanco (Laguna Hills, Calif./El Toro) got ahead of the Golden Falcon defense. Felician junior goalkeeper Julia Sheridan (Hasbrouck Heights, N.J./Community) came out to meet Blanco and was able to push the ball away from her. However, Clipper senior Nicole Brochero (White Plains, N.Y./White Plains) was the first to the loose ball, and sent a long ball over Sheridan's head. The ball hit the inside of the right post and pinballed across the goal line with 19:02 left in the half.
With 10:33 gone by in period two, the hosts obtained the equalizer. Junior Marissa Nieves (Brick, N.J./Brick Memorial) sent a high-arcing cross parallel to the goal line that sailed over the outstretched arms of Concordia junior keeper Samantha Street (Granite Falls, Wash./Granite Falls). Golden Falcon junior Macki Groves (Millville, N.J./Millville) was stationed behind Street and converted on a header.
The Golden Falcons upped their offensive pressure, winning five corner kicks for the period and sending several other free kicks into the penalty area. The hosts missed out on taking the lead when a Jordan Farley (Brick, N.J./Brick Township) free kick hit off and then over the crossbar in the 60th minute, but otherwise struggled to put their shots on frame.
The game-winning goal originated off of a throw-in. A long throw into the box by Felician sophomore defender Carly Brantner (Waldwick, N.J./Eastern Christian) was deflected by a Concordia player. The ball caromed right to Petosa at the top of the box, and she sent an 18-yard drive inside the left post. It was Petosa's first goal since her freshman season of 2011.
Felician finished the night with edges of 17-3 in shots and 10-0 in corners. Sheridan made two saves to earn the victory. Street stopped four first-half shots for the Clippers (0-9-1, 0-8).
