Felician Men Done In By Efficient Cougar Offense

Box Score

RUTHERFORD, N.J. – Caldwell College shot 51 percent from the floor and 90 percent at the free-throw line in its 94-85 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference men's basketball victory over host Felician College on Thursday night at Job Gymnasium. Caldwell (13-7, 9-4 CACC) outscored the Golden Falcons, 36-12, on foul shots.

The Cougars swept their two-game regular-season series from Felician for the first time since 2007-08.

Sophomore guard Jamal Reid (Newark, N.J./East Side) topped five Felician double-figure scorers with 21 points and six assists. Golden Falcon junior forward Jeyvi Miavivululu (Paterson, N.J./Paterson Catholic) scored 12 points and grabbed a game-high 15 rebounds.

After five first-half tied and five lead changes, Caldwell received a buzzer-beating lay-up by junior forward Michael Balkovic (Neptune, N.J./St. John Vianney) to take a 41-38 lead into the locker room. The Cougars, however, never trailed in period two.

Felician (4-16, 2-11) cut a seven-point deficit with 13:10 to play to 62-61 on a lay-up in transition by Anthony Obery (Roselle, N.J./Abraham Clark) at the 11:36 mark. But Caldwell's Wyatt Polk (Haddonfield, N.J./Haddonfield Memorial) canned a three-point field goal on his team's next possession, touching off a game-changing 14-3 run for the visitors.

The Golden Falcons came as close as a 78-72 deficit with 3:12 to play before a three-point play by Kevin Walker (Bayonne, N.J./St. Peter's Prep) stabilized things for Caldwell. Walker then went 8 for 8 at the foul line in the game's final minute. He finished 5 for 6 from the floor and 13 for 13 at the line to lead all players with 23 points.

Balkovic (7-11 FG) finished with 20 points, 11 rebound and three assists and Polk scored 19 points for the Cougars. Felician received 17 points from junior forward J.R. Pringley (Elizabeth, N.J./Linden) and 13 points and six assists from Obery. Sophomore guard Lamine Cooper (Willingboro, N.J./Medford Tech) tallied 11 points in 18 minutes off the bench.
